Fix it up'
Wear it out
Make it work
or do without
This saying used to sit in my window sill. I wrote it on a piece of paper and even put scotch tape over to preserve it. (My version of laminating)We here at our house have been without a dishwasher for one year. Which doesn't seem like that long in the grand scheme but some days I think every dish was out because everyone used 50 cups each. We made it work and like my wise father always said..."Why do I need to buy a dishwasher, I already have seven!" So, what do you think I said to my kids when they were tired of standing there rinsing dishes? It's the great circle of wise sayings.
We now have an electric dishwasher!! Sweet!!
I was thinking though, standing and washing dishes while listening to music is a great way to re-connect with our children. Landon even drew pictures of him and me washing dishes together and told me it was his favorite thing to do together. I love no-brainer jobs (most of the time). It gave me a chance to listen to the Diane Rhem Show on NPR after I dropped off the kids at school.Of course there are still dishes to be done, but in half the time. Sometimes having things break is blessing. (like our DVD player in the suburban-love it gone!)
One night I came home to this piece of heaven.
